Dixie State sweeps BYUH in PacWest volleyball

Katie Luna had 11 kills and 15 digs as Dixie State beat visiting Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 25-18, 30-28, 25-20, in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match at St. George, Utah.
Morgan Hill added 11 kills for the Red Storm (12-5, 6-2).
Losaline Faka'osi had 11 kills and 17 digs, and Nobuko Kotoyori added 19 digs for the Seasiders (7-10, 4-4).

BYUH LOSES TO NO. 5
Kelsey Jenkins scored in the 64th minute as fifth-ranked Seattle Pacific beat visiting Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 1-0, in a non-conference women's match at Seattle.
Seattle Pacific, which has not lost at home in 39 straight matches, improved to 11-1. Becky Ploeger made five saves for the Seasiders (5-2).

IGAWA OUSTED
Sean Knapp parred the first extra hole yesterday to outlast Hilo's Chris Igawa, 1-up (19), in the first round of the 29th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at The Kiawah Island Club in South Carolina.
Igawa had four birdies on the front nine and was 3-up at the turn. Knapp won Nos. 11, 12 and 14 to square the match. Igawa bogeyed the 16th to trail for the first time, but birdied the 17th to tie the match again.

ONLY LAJOLA LEFT
University of Hawai'i sophomore Dennis Lajola will be the only Rainbow in the main draw of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships. Yesterday, at Tulsa, Okla., UH senior Andreas Weber lost in three sets and sophomore Leo Rosenberg also fell in the second round of qualifiers.
With a No. 43 national ranking, Lajola advanced automatically into the main draw, which starts tomorrow. He and partner Jeremy Tweedt won their first-round doubles match yesterday in the qualifying, but lost in the second round.
Rosenberg and Weber also won in the first round, then lost to the ninth-seeded team from Arkansas. UH's Philipp Eberhard and Dmytro Kovalyov lost in the opening round.
