UH-Hilo volleyball remains unbeaten

Josimara Pinheiro and Fabiane Seben each had 11 kills as unbeaten and 19th-ranked Hawai'i-Hilo swept host Grand Canyon, 25-11, 25-20, 25-9, last night in a Pacific West Conference volleyball match at Phoenix.

Katie Swenson added 38 assists and Lauren Tonokawa 12 digs for the Vulcans (15-0, 5-0).

Laurann Durbin had 14 digs for the Antelopes (9-6, 0-4).

Elsewhere in the PacWest last night:

• Mariana Souza had 11 kills as Hawai'i Pacific beat host Academy of Art, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25, at San Francisco. Natasha Bell added nine kills and 13 digs for the Sea Warriors (7-6, 4-0). Dan Yang had 14 kills and 13 digs for the Urban Knights (13-5, 2-3).

• Losaline Faka'osi had nine kills and 21 digs as Brigham Young-Hawai'i beat host Dominican, 25-21, 27-25, 25-20, at San Rafael, Calif. Hannah Wilkinson added nine kills and Melanie Manutai 10 digs for the Seasiders (5-8, 2-2). Tianna Tuatagaloa had 14 kills for the Penguins (3-12, 0-4).

• Caitlin Torres had 16 kills as host Notre Dame de Namur beat Chaminade, 23-25, 25-17, 14-25, 25-23, 15-8, at Belmont, Calif. Breanna Morales added 10 kills and 10 digs for the Argos (5-13, 3-2). Chauntelle Maduli had 15 kills and 14 digs, Whitney Viveiros added 12 kills and 18 digs, Courtney Lorusso had 12 kills and Tanya Alvino contributed 46 assists for the Silverswords (1-13, 0-5).
