A high-surf advisory for most of the state was canceled this afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
Surf heights dropped throughout the afternoon below the advisory levels of 12 feet for west-facing shores and 15 feet for north-facing shores.

The advisory had covered windward shores of Niihau and Kauai; leeward, north and windward shores of Oahu; and windward shores of Maui County.
Surf was in the 10- to 15-foot range today. The waves will drop by tonight.
