Paula Abdul says she overcame a 12-year addiction to painkillers last year.

The "American Idol" judge tells Ladies Home Journal in its June issue that last Thanksgiving she checked into a resort in Carlsbad, Calif., where she weaned herself off her medications.

Abdul says she didn't like existing the way she had been.

The magazine says the 46-year-old singer-dancer suffered for years from chronic pain caused by an unusual series of accidents.

Abdul's spokesman, Jeff Ballard, says Abdul "has moved forward in her life."

CAGE FILM HIT BY ANOTHER N.Y. CAR CRASH

Nine crew members on a Nicolas Cage film have been treated for minor injuries after another car crash in New York's Times Square near the movie set.

An SUV hit a parked car and both vehicles jumped the curb where crew members were sitting under a marquee yesterday, police said.

It's the second accident this week involving the film "The Sorcerer's Apprentice."

Early Monday, a stunt driver apparently lost control of a Ferrari during filming of a chase scene. Two bystanders were injured when the car plowed into a restaurant just blocks away from yesterday's accident scene.

MASS. LAW ENFORCEMENT CAUGHT SNOOPING

It turns out Massachusetts law enforcement officers have been engaging in a bit of star search themselves — on the likes of Tom Brady and Matt Damon.

A new audit says law enforcement and judicial employees have conducted hundreds of criminal record searches on Massachusetts celebrities, including singer James Taylor and Boston Celtics captain Paul Pierce.

Criminal Systems History Board director Curtis Wood said agencies are determining if any of the queries were legitimate. He said illegitimate checks will be punished.

GOSSELIN SAYS THAT IN REALITY HE'S FAITHFUL

Reality TV star Jon Gosselin says he did not cheat on his wife, Kate.

Gosselin is denying tabloid reports of an affair with a Pennsylvania schoolteacher. He does acknowledge spending time with friends of both sexes, including the woman with whom he's rumored to be cheating.

Photos of Gosselin and the woman have surfaced in recent weeks.

Jon and Kate Gosselin, along with their eight children, star on the TLC reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

PBS BUSINESS NEWS ANCHOR TO STEP DOWN

PBS business news anchor Paul Kangas will wish viewers his last "good buy" at the end of the year.

Kangas, anchor of the "Nightly Business Report" since it began as a local show in Miami in 1979, is stepping down. The show now airs on 250 PBS stations across the country. PBS hopes to find a new partner for co-anchor Susie Gharib sometime next fall.

Kangas' signature signoff to viewers each night is to wish them "the best of good buys."
