Maui Land & Pineapple names new CFO

A new chief financial officer will join Maui Land & Pineapple Company Inc. April 15, relieving extra duties that had been carried by the company's CFO.

John P. Durkin, who has spent much of his career in Japan in corporate finance and management positions, is taking over as Maui Land CFO from Robert Webber, who has been the company's chief operating officer for a year and was appointed chief executive officer in January.

Durkin most recently was managing director of Nikko Citi Holdings Co. Ltd. in Tokyo, and prior to that was chief financial officer of Nikko Cordial Financial Group. He also has held similar positions with Vodafone Asia Pacific, Nike Japan and Ajinomoto General Foods.

"John brings a wealth of finance expertise and relevant skills to MLP at a critical stage in our business," company chairman Warren Haruki said in a statement.

Durkin is a graduate of the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy with the rank of lieutenant. He and his wife Makiko will reside in West Maui.

Webber joined Maui Land in April 2006 as CFO after previously serving as president of technology services, information technology network infrastructure and security software and hardware firm DynTek Inc.

Webber filled the position that received a couple of short-term appointments following the retirement of longtime Maui Land finance chief Paul Meyer in 2004. Webber was promoted to chief executive to replace David Cole, who resigned the position last year amid mounting losses and layoffs at the Kahului-based company.
