LAWA'I
Beach in front of resort closed by shark sighting

Kaua'i police yesterday closed the beach fronting the Lawa'i Beach Resort after a shark was seen.

The beach will remain closed at least through this morning, officials said.

A swimmer reported seeing a 6- to 7-foot shark about 100 feet offshore, police said. "No swimming" signs were posted in the area.

To report a shark sighting, call the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement at 808-274-3521 during business hours or Kaua'i police dispatch at 808-241-1711.
