BYUH men storm past HPU, 107-70

Lucas Alves had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Brigham Young-Hawai'i overwhelmed Hawai'i Pacific, 107-70, last night in a non-conference men's basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in La'ie.

Virgil Buensuceso and Nathan Sims each added 15 points, and Trenson Akana and Jet Chang added 11 apiece for the Seasiders (25-1), who extended their winning streak to 22 games in their final regular-season game.

Rishi Kakad scored 18 points, Misha Radojevic added 12 and Jason Curtis 10 for the Sea Warriors, who finished the season at 9-17.

In the women's game, Latoya Wily had 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Seasiders to an 82-72 victory.

Agnes Tuilevuka added 13 points and Felisita Ika had 10 for BYUH (16-11).

Tiffany Wilson scored 30 points and Mana Hopkins 18 for HPU (14-15).

The Sea Warriors led by as many as 10 points in the first half, which ended with BYUH ahead 36-35.

The Seasiders built their lead to as many as 11 in the second half, before Wilson led an HPU comeback that closed it to 76-72 with 47 seconds to play. BYUH then clinched it by hitting 6 of 6 free throws down the stretch.

BYUH 12-0 IN PACWEST

Brigham Young-Hawai'i scored the first seven points of the game, pushed its lead to 15-2 and never trailed in defeating Hawai'i Pacific, 99-64, Friday night in a Pacific West Conference men's game in La'ie.

Jet Chang scored 19 points and Lucas Alves added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Seasiders (24-1, 12-0), who became the first team to go unbeaten in conference play.

Reserve Marques Whippy added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Nate Sims had 17 points and nine rebounds for BYUH.

Cliff Hodge scored 17 points, Mike Helton 11, and Misha Radojevic and Chris Evans 10 each for the Sea Warriors (9-16, 3-9).
