Senators say Hawaii transit projects getting $44 milllion in stimulus funds

Advertiser Staff

U.S. Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel Akaka announced today that Hawaii will receive nearly $44 million for transit projects under economic stimulus bill.

The senators also said Honolulu International Airport and Kahului Airport are under consideration for stimulus funding for explosives detection systems.

"Our transportation infrastructure is vital to the well-being of our state," they said in a news release. "The stimulus funds will ensure continued federal support for important transit operations in Hawaii, and also give a boost to our state economy during these tough economic times when the working men and women of Hawaii are very concerned about their jobs and family budgets."
