State Art Museum hosts lecture on Okinawan dance tomorrow

The Hawaiçi State Art Museum hosts an Art Lunch lecture by Cheryl Yoshie Nakasone on Okinawan Dance, tomorrow, from noon to 1 p.m. at HiSAM.
Nakasone was instructed on the art of dance by dance master Ryöshö Kin in Okinawa. She is the first foreign-born dancer to complete all levels of the rigorous Ryükyü Shimpo Geinö Konküru examinations, and was awarded the title of shihan, which means expert or senior instructor.
She is a lecturer at the University of Hawaii-Mänoa Department of Theatre and Dance. Additionally, She also teaches dance in her Honolulu studio.
During the free lecture, Nakasone will focus on the classical Okinawan drama dances of Kumi Udui.
