Kaluka Maiava signs with Browns

Associated Press

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns have signed linebacker Kaluka Maiava, a fourth-round draft pick from Southern Cal.

Maiava, a former Baldwin star not as well known as some of the Trojans’ other linebackers, reported for the first day of Cleveland’s rookie training camp on Friday. A second-team All-Pac 10 selection as a senior, Maiava had 66 tackles and an interception last season. He played alongside Clay Matthews (first round), Brian Cushing (first round) and Rey Maualuga (second round).
The Browns have signed four of the eight members of their rookie class. They are still in talks with first-round pick, center Alex Mack. He arrived in Cleveland on Friday but cannot participate in the team’s rookie camp until he is signed.
Also unsigned is former University of Hawaii outside linebacker David Veikune.
The Browns veterans are not required to report until July 31, and first-year coach Eric Mangini will have his first practice on Aug. 1.
