CFB: Portland State QB out for season with knee injury

Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State quarterback Tygue Howland will miss the upcoming season because of a knee injury that requires surgery.

Howland tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Monday while working out with teammates. He is scheduled for surgery on Aug. 12.

It is Howland's third season-ending injury in the past four years.

Howland, a senior, was expected to backup projected starter Drew Hubel this season.

Last season, Howland started in four games and appeared in three others. He passed for 1,111 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions.

Howland can petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility.
