Fawcett documentary earns nomination

HOLLYWOOD — Farrah Fawcett, who had been nominated previously for three acting Emmys, did not live to see the nomination that one of her closest friends said would have made her the most proud.

“This would have meant so much to Farrah,” said Alana Stewart, a few hours after learning that “Farrah’s Story,” a documentary chronicling Fawcett’s battle with a rare cancer, had earned a nomination for outstanding nonfiction special. Fawcett was an executive producer of the documentary.
Stewart, a producer of the NBC special, noted that the announcement of the nomination came exactly three weeks after Fawcett died.
Said Stewart: “This wasn’t a role for Farrah. This was her life. She felt if she was supposed to go through this, she wanted to help other people. She lost the battle, but she won the war by encouraging and helping people.”
Stewart added that she had phoned Ryan O’Neal, Fawcett’s longtime companion, and told him of the nomination: “He was very excited and happy.”
