Advertiser staff

The Hawaii State Farm Fair is back and this year, organizers are giving away prizes in exchange for learning.

The Ag Challenge is a game designed to teach fair goers about Hawaii’s agriculture.
Participants are given a list of questions that they must answer correctly and turn in, in order to enter a drawing for Wii Sports and three additional games, a Sony PSP and three additional games and an iPod nano. The drawing will take place on Sunday at 4 p.m. They will also award attendees periodically with Bluetooth headsets.
The answers to the Ag Challenge questions can be found on posters, photos, facts and stories about coffee, chocolate, taro and livestock in Hawaii and will be located throughout the fairgrounds.
There will be cooking demonstrations, a corn husking and watermelon eating contest, rides for small kids, live entertainment and a feast of food with a selection so big, everyone is bound to find something they like.

Also at the 2009 Hawaiçi State Farm Fair will be:
• 4-H Livestock Exhibit —experience a livestock show and auction in person.
• Farmers’ Market — browse or buy plenty of fresh, local produce and Hawaiçi-made products such as jams, jellies, fresh-baked bread and other specialty items.
• Plant Sale — walk among a large selection of indoor and outdoor plants, orchids and native species plants. There will also be a plant doctor available to answer questions or give solutions to plant problems.
