American Savings Bank employees and family members on Wednesday will help serve 200 meals to Hawai'i's hungry at the H5 Next Step Project, a transitional homeless shelter in Kaka'ako.

The community service project is part of the American Savings' Seeds of Service employee program, which enables and encourages bank employees to volunteer for community service projects throughout Hawaii.

The Seeds of Service program was implemented in 2005 and, to date, American Savings employees have contributed more than 7,500 hours to public, private, and charter schools, in addition to nonprofit organizations.

Earlier this month, as part of its January First Saturday Program, American Savings Bank collected truckloads of items for shelters across Hawai'i, including The Next Step Project on O'ahu. H5 prepares and delivers meals to about 5,000-6,000 homeless people every month, assisting families from Honolulu to Wai'anae.
