A Schofield Barracks soldier has died from a noncombat-related incident in Iraq, the Pentagon announced this morning.

He was identified as Pvt. Sean P. McCune, 20, of Euless, Texas, who died Jan. 11 in Samarra, Iraq.

McCune was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawai'i.

McCune joined the Army in April 2008 and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in August, Hawai'i Army officials said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, military officials said.
