A motorcyclist in his 40s was killed this afternoon in a collision with a school bus in Maili.

Co-workers and friends identified the man as Wesley Garcia, whom they described as a friendly, easy-going guy.

Garcia was apparently on his lunch break from Rapoza Auto Body and went for a ride on a dirt bike, an orange KTM 520.

It was the first time he had ridden the bike, friends said.

Police said the school bus was empty. They said Garcia was the only person injured.

He was taken to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police shut down both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane on Farrington Highway in Maili between Lopikane Street and Kaukamana Road due to the accident, which happened about 1:13 p.m.
