FEBRUARY NIGHT MARKET

The February installment of the popular Night Market event at Aloha Tower Waterfront will feature a fashion show of local designers from the membership of the Hawai'i Fashion Incubator. Emerging designers who would like to have a booth at the event can contact Jodi Salmonson at karijane@hawaii.rr.com for details.

Night Market will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. It's a great shopping opportunity to find fashions and accessories that aren't usually readily available in Honolulu.

ROCK SHOP TAKES A HOP

Rock Shop, the shopping event with a clubby vibe, is switching it up. The next Rock Shop, featuring clothes and accessory booths from young local designers and entrepreneurs who bring in coveted labels, will take place on a First Friday, March 6, 4 to 9 p.m. at LOFT at 115 Hotel St. Your host is AnnŽ Au, a sometimes model and former boutique operator.

ALOHA 'OE TO SMART MAGAZINE

Nearly four years ago, SMART magazine burst onto the Island fashion scene. Its fresh, youthful outlook was a welcome presence in our local media. The three young partners and their magazine were pioneers in the media/fashion event partnerships that have since become de rigeur in our city.

We have learned, sadly, that SMART has published its last issue. "The difficult economic climate has unfortunately played a role in our decision to stop publishing SMART for the time being," said founder and publication director Molly Watanabe. "We are so sad to have to say goodbye to our readers and want to thank them for all of their love and support, which they gave us from the very beginning." SMART subscribers will receive Honolulu Magazine in place of SMART.

ON OUR RADAR | WE HEART THIS

So your valentine's a little too style savvy and sophisticated for a cutesy gift? Flowers and candy just too predictable? Here's a solution: Donna Struthers' artful heart pendant, which we found in The Contemporary Museum gift shop.

The Kailua jewelry designer sculpted the heart from fine silver and placed it on a handmade chain ($120). If you want to kick it up a notch and add a pair of earrings, we love Struthers' silver pods with pearl drops ($70), a style she can wear with everything from jeans to cocktail dresses.
