A strong high-pressure area to the north of the Islands will keep breezy trade winds blowing through Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

The high will move further away from the state as the week progresses, resulting in gentler trades across the island chain during the the second half of the week, forecasters said.

The showery weather will give way to fewer showers Wednesday through Thursday as most of the remnants of the shear line slide south and west of the state.

However, an upper-level low-pressure area settling close to the Islands may bring back scattered showers statewide over the weekend.

Today: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Breezy, with an east wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Wednesday: Scattered showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Wednesday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Thursday night: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
