Salutes

• Kapolei Property Development recently celebrated the talents of students at the 15th Annual Leeward Young Artist Awards.

Of the 50 finalists, 10 were named winners. They are: Hailey Paschel, kindergarten, Iroquois Point Elementary School; Henri Harilal, fifth grade, Manana Elementary School; Kelli Ann Ulep, sixth grade, Manana Elementary School; Nicole Cristobal, seventh grade, Highlands Intermediate School; Raquel Lasconia, seventh grade, Kapolei Middle School; Aryss Peralta, eighth grade, Highlands Intermediate School; Jennifer Wong, eighth grade, Kapolei Middle School; Heidi Neidheart, 11th grade, Wai'anae High School; Sunny Nohara, 11th grade, Kapolei High School; and Daniel Remigio, 12th grade, Campbell High School.

In addition, the Honolulu Academy of Arts awarded scholarships to Matthew Guhl, fifth grade, Barbers Point Elementary School; Melanie Chandler, eighth grade, Kapolei Middle School; and Joanna Endo, 10th grade, Wai'anae High School.

• The Mediation Center of the Pacific recently recognized work in helping to resolve conflicts:

Teena Urban and Doug Kaya, Mediators of the Year; Martin Leftik and Ila Peralta, Apprentice Mediators of the Year.

Outgoing director Roberta Lee-Driscoll received recognition for improving the center's financial operations.

Mediator Helga Frankel was recognized as the Mediation Center Treasurer for mediating nearly 2,000 cases over the past 22 years.

Attorney Charlene Anaya received the Lawyer as Problem Solver Award for her work in developing the nationally recognized "Kids First" program.

King Intermediate School received the Community Peace Award for helping to change school culture to one of conflict prevention and resolution.

Don Brown received the Conch Shell Award. Brown is an artist who worked with the Mediation Center to create a video that will help schools prevent and reduce conflicts.
