Cause of Waikele house fire undetermined

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Fire Department investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a fire that heavily damaged the garage area of a Waikele home Monday.

The fire at 94-1070 Lelehu St. was reported at 4:55 p.m., said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. Seelig said one of the children at the home smelled smoke and went outside and saw smoke in the garage.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control shortly before 5:30 and had it extinguished at about 6 p.m. There were one adult and two children at home when the fire broke out, but Seelig said all managed to escape without injury.
The fire was confined to the garage and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. Seelig said a car in the driveway also was damaged.
Seelig said the investigator has listed the cause as “undetermined,” meaning the case is closed unless more information surfaces.
