Hurricane Guillermo has weakened as a Category 2 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds near 98 mph, the National Weather Service said in its 11 p.m. update.

Guillermo continues to slowly weaken, and that is expected to continue tomorrow and Monday as Guillermo moves over cooler water.

At 11 p.m. today, Guillermo was about 1160 miles east of Hilo. The system has been moving toward the west-northwest at about 14 mph, and is expected to cross into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center's area of responsibility around midday tomorrow.

Its projected track shows Guillermo moving well north of the main Hawaiian Islands.

The Weather Service said the storm should have no direct impact on Hawaii. However by midweek trade winds may weaken, making for hot, muggy conditions. Also high surf may arrive on windward shores by midweek.

At 11 p.m. the hurricane was at latitude 19.9 north and longitude 137.1 west.
