Makaha Mango Festival set for tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

The First Annual Makaha Mango Festival — a day-long extravaganza that's dedicated to everything mango — will kick off at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Makaha Resort & Golf Club.

Admission to the festival is free.

The festival is hosted by the Wai'anae Coast Coalition, the Hawaii Farm Bureau and the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and will feature events for the backyard mango grower as well as mango tastings, mango recipe contests, mango workshops and a mango tradeshow.

Local growers, nursery operators and University of Hawai'i agriculture personnel will offer expert advice on identifying varieties of mangoes, growing procedures and ways to prepare home-grown mangoes. Ready-to-grow mango plants will be on sale.

At 3 p.m. there will be a happy hour and mango tasting reception at poolside. From 5 to 9 p.m. mango fans are invited to enjoy a gourmet mango dinner at the Resort's Kaiona Restaurant (cost to be determined).
