Ala Moana attempted-murder suspect hospitalized

Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old man arrested late Friday night in Waimalu on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and forgery has been released pending recovery from injuries allegedly suffered while fleeing Tuesday from the scene of the offense.

Police arrested the suspect at 98-0175 Kaonohi St. at 10:30 p.m. He was booked for resisting arrest in addition to the attempted murder and forgery counts before being taken to the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed upper body injury infection.

Police have a guard posted at the hospital and plan to re-arrest the suspect on warrants after his release from the hospital.

The attempted-murder count stems from the suspect allegedly driving his vehicle toward an officer investigating a forgery-in-progress complaint Tuesday at 7:21 p.m. on Kahakai Drive near Ala Moana Center. The officer was treated for minor injuries and released.

The suspect reportedly abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. He is believed to have injured himself while scaling a fence.
