MONTE CARLO, Monaco Tirunesh Dibaba's 5,000-meter world record was ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations on Thursday.

The Ethiopian distance runner ran 14 minutes, 11.15 seconds on June 6 in Oslo, Norway, to break the mark by more than five seconds. Meseret Defar, also of Ethiopia, held the previous record of 14:16.63, set a year earlier in Oslo.

Two months after setting the record, Dibaba won the 5,000-10,000 double at the Beijing Olympics.
