A tense situation that began about 9:30 Wednesday night on Panana Street in Makakilo ended peacefully early yesterday morning and police arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of abuse of a family or household member.

Police were called to the home because of what was described as a domestic dispute. Police said the man's wife was able to leave the home but her husband refused to come out.

A five-hour standoff with police ensued, during which officers reported hearing what sounded like a weapon being "racked" (prepared to fire) inside the home.

The man was eventually persuaded to come out of the home without incident about 2 a.m., police said.
