CFB: Brown rolls over Dartmouth

Associated Press

HANOVER, N.H. — When it rains it pours and Brown poured it on Dartmouth on Saturday, scoring on its first five drives en route to a 45-16 win today that kept both football teams going in opposite directions in the Ivy League.

The Bears (6-3, 5-1) shook off a wet day to stay in the middle of the league championship hunt with Harvard (8-1, 5-1) after the Crimson's 24-21 win over Penn today.

Brown quarterback Michael Dougherty completed 16 of 22 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns, most of it coming as the Bears built 31-10 halftime lead.

Dartmouth's loss, its school-record 11th in a row, left the Big Green (0-9, 0-6) one defeat away from the first winless season in modern program history.

Bobby Sewall scored on a 21-yard pass from Dougherty and on a 1-yard run for a 14-0 Brown lead in the first quarter. Robert Ranney booted a 35-yard field goal, Trevan Samp gathered in a 25-yard TD pass from Dougherty and linebacker Joe Yanchunis returned an interception from Dartmouth quarterback Connor Kempe 31 yards for the Bears' other first-half points.

Shawn Abuhoff's 94-yard TD kickoff return and Foley Schmidt's 35-yard field goal provided the Big Green's only first-half highlights. Kempe threw two interceptions and lost a fumble before halftime.

Sewall accounted for 148 yards of total offense for Brown, adding a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter to go with a 69-yard scoring dash from Dougherty.

Kempe went 27-of-42 for 275 yards on the day for Dartmouth, completing a 6-yard scoring pass to Philip Galligan on the game's final play for the Big Green's final points.
