Maui fundraiser set to help kidney transplant patient

The Organ Open, a fundraiser to help defray costs of an upcoming kidney transplant surgery of a longtime Marriott employee, is set for 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Club House iat the Ka'anapali Golf Course.

Lee Johnson, who works at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club, has been living with IGA nephropathy, a kidney disease that causes his kidneys to shut down, for 13 years. Recently his kidney function has dropped and he was placed on the national transplant list. Untl a Maui woman stepped forward, his wait was to be about five years. But after numerous drives on Maui in search of a match, one was found with a Maui woman, who is a perfect match for Johnson. The surgery will take place in Minnesota in the next two months. The fundraiser is being held to defray the cost of the transplant, travel costs and accommodations. To sign up call 808 276-8733.
