Autopsy ordered for 'opihi picker

Big Island police have initiated a coroner's inquest case in connection with the death of an 'opihi picker found Saturday in the Honoka'a District.

The victim has been identified as David M. Davis, 37, of Kailua, Kona. Fire Department personnel found his body at the bottom of a 300-foot cliff near Kuka'iau Landing near the 33-mile marker of Hawai'i Belt Road.

Police found no evidence of foul play. An autopsy was to be conducted.

The police Criminal Investigations Section is continuing the investigation.



PHARMACY COLLEGE GETS $50,000 GIFT

Walgreens on Saturday gave a $50,000 unrestricted gift to the University of Hawai'i-Hilo's College of Pharmacy.

College of Pharmacy Dean John Pezzuto said the gift will be used to help fund ongoing initiatives, such as student activities and faculty development.
