Fresh lei needed for graves of veterans

Fifty-thousand fresh lei are needed for placement on the graves of veterans at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at all state veterans cemeteries for Memorial Day.

The lei are needed on May 23 and can be dropped off at designated community parks and fire stations and other locations.

All lei must be made of fresh flowers or ti leaves and measure 20 to 24 inches before tying. All lei must be tied. Floral sprays such as ti leaf and anthurium bouquets also are welcome.

Lei can be dropped off at the following locations on May 23:

  • From 9 a.m. to noon at Wai'anae District Park, Waiau District Park, Kailua District Park, Hau'ula District Park and Waialua District Park.

  • From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ala Wai Community Park, Makua Ali'i Senior Center at 1541 Kalakaua Ave., Makiki District Park, Waipahu District Park and Kane'ohe District Park.

  • Any O'ahu fire station from 6 to 11 a.m.

  • Parks Department permit section, Fasi Municipal Building, 650 S. King St., from 8 a.m. to noon.

    Loose plumeria flowers can be dropped off on May 22 at Waipahu District Park, Kailua District Park and Makua Ali'i Senior Center.
