Movie openings

  • "Iron Man" Robert Downey Jr. stars as the tycoon inside Iron Man's shiny shell. He's a 21st-century Oskar Schindler, a munitions maker who reinvents himself as a champion for good. "Iron Man" is a slickly engineered special-effects extravaganza with a saucy sense of humor — an adult take on juvenile escapism. Opens tomorrow at Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theatres, Ward Stadium 16, Mililani 14-Plex, Pearl Highlands Stadium 12, Pearlridge West 16-Plex, Koko Marina 8-Plex, Kahala Mall, Ko'olau 10-Plex, Kapolei 16-Plex, Windward Stadium 10, Kukui Mall Theatres (Maui). (PG-13)

  • "The Life Before Her Eyes" Evan Rachel Wood is a high school senior who witnesses a horrible Columbine-like massacre. Uma Thurman plays the girl 15 years later, as an art professor with a husband and child, who is haunted by what she witnessed. Opens tomorrow at Kahala Mall. (R)

  • "Love and Honor" The final episode in Yoji Yamada's samurai trilogy. Like "The Twilight Samurai" and "The Hidden Blade," the story follows a low-caste samurai struggling to please his heart and conscience. Opens tomorrow at Kahala Mall, Kaahumanu Mall 6-Plex (Maui). (PG-13)

  • "Made of Honor" Patrick Dempsey realizes he's in love with his best friend, played by Michelle Monaghan. When she announces she's getting married, he vows to undermine the wedding from the inside.
