UH's Frick sixth in 3-meter

Hawai'i senior diver Magnus Frick finished sixth in the 3-meter springboard yesterday at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Reuben Ross, a Miami sophomore, won the six-dive event with 466.80 points, followed by Chris Colwill of Georgia with 460.55. Frick scored 395.95 points.

Frick was sixth after the preliminaries with the top eight advancing to the championship finals and earning All-America status.

UH's Mats Wiktorsson, who will dive in today's platform event, was 30th in the 3-meter preliminaries.

Frick, who finished his UH career with four All-America finishes, was second in yesterday's 1-meter springboard.


BASKETBALL

BYUH'S ALVES HONORED

BYUH-Hawai'i's Lucas Alves was selected to the National Basketball Coaches Association's Division II All-Region West team.

Alves, a sophomore from Brazil, led the PacWest in scoring with 20.2 points a game and was named conference player of the week four times. He was third in rebounding with 8.3 per game.

SEASIDER ON LOSING TEAM

Paul Peterson, a BYUH senior, scored seven points and had a game-high 10 assists, but his West team lost to the East, 103-97, last night in the annual NABC East-West All-Star game last night at Springfield, Mass.

BYUH assistant coach Brandyn Akana was an assistant for the West squad.
