Advertiser Staff

A 16-year-old boy injured in a single-car crash early Saturday morning on Moloka'i died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center.

Maui County police identified the victim as Nakai'imoku Acasio, of Ho'olehua. Acasio died at 5:10 p.m. yesterday.

Police said Acasio was driving a stolen car which crashed on Kamehameha V Highway near mile post 3.8 in Kawela at 4:50 a.m. Saturday.

Three other boys, ages 14, 15 and 16, from Kualapu'u were treated at Moloka'i General Hospital and released.

The death is Maui County's fifth traffic fatality of the year, compared to four by this day in 2007.

As of yesterday, 30 people have died statewide in traffic accidents so far this year, compared to 37 by this day in 2007.

O'ahu has had 11 traffic fatalities this year — including three pedestrian deaths — the Big Island 10 and Kaua'i four.
