WASHINGTON — Sen. Daniel K. Inouye arrived in Israel today on a fact-finding trip in his role as chairman of the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee.

Mike Yuen, spokesman for Inouye, a longtime supporter of Israel, declined to provide details about Inouye's visit.

But The Jerusalem Post reported today that the Hawai'i Democrat was one of a wave of American officials expected to travel to Israel this week in wake of the visit by Vice President Dick Cheney, who departed Tuesday.

Others who will be arriving include Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
