ATHLETICS

PACWEST ADDS ONE

The Academy of Art University in San Francisco has accepted an invitation to join the Pacific West Conference effective next season.

The Urban Knights will sponsor 11 NCAA Division II sports programs, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country/track and field, men's and women's soccer, baseball, men's golf, women's tennis and women's volleyball.

The Urban Knights will compete as an independent in the 2008-2009 season, their first intercollegiate athletics season, before joining the full PacWest schedule in 2009-2010.

The Academy of Art addition brings the number of PacWest teams to eight, and provides a travel partner for nearby Notre Dame de Namur, which is located in Belmont, Calif.

CORRECTION

IT WAS BAE
