INVASIVE GINGER REMOVAL: Volcanoes National Park ranger Jason Zimmer will lead a work project to remove non-native kahili ginger along the Crater Rim Trail on June 28. Volunteers should meet at the Kilauea Visitor Center at 9 a.m.

MAUNALUA MAKAI WATCH TRAINING: Free training sessions equip volunteers to learn about and kokua Maunalua Bay. Sign-up deadline July 3; training sessions 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 12, 19 and 26 at East O'ahu location to be announced.

Volunteers must be 16 or older, and be able to commit to volunteering at least four hours a month for one year. Topics include: history of Malama Maunalua (www.malamamauna lua.org); Maunalua Bay history and geography; basic ecology of Maunalua Bay (resources, major threats and restoration strategies); existing bay regulations and common violations; identification of fish and limu species; biological monitoring; human use monitoring; and alien algae removal projects.

CONSERVATION CONFERENCE: Volunteers needed for 2008 Hawai'i Conservation Conference July 29-31. Seeking volunteer coordinator and help with audio-visual, exhibits, film festival, registration and souvenir sales; volunteer orientation on July 28. TRAIL GRANT PROGRAM: The American Hiking Society, a private organization, is offering grants to help maintain hiking trails through its 2009 National Trails Fund. The 10-year-old fund awards grants of up to $5,000. For more information, go to www.AmericanHiking.org. Application deadline is Aug. 15.

WAIMEA VALLEY GREETER: Volunteer greeters are sought to work one day a week for 2 1/2 hours at O'ahu's Waimea Valley. For information about training, contact Kelly Perry at 638-7766, ext. 203.
