Wie opens with 71 in Wegmans LPGA tournament

Hawai'i's Michelle Wie shot a 1-under-par 71 today and was three strokes off the lead in the first round of the Wegmans LPGA at Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, N.Y.

Japan's Ai Miyazato shot a 4-under 68 join Cristie Kerr and five South Korean players atop the crowded leaderboard.

Jeong Jang, Inbee Park, Song-Hee Kim, Jimin Jeong and Soo-Yun Kang, who holed a 9-wood shot for an ace on the 165-yard seventh hole, also shot 68s.

Wie had three birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the par-4 No. 3 and made the turn at 1 under. She went to 2 under with a birdie on the par-5 No. 11, but bogeyed Nos. 12 and 14, both par-4s. She got back to 1 under with a birdie on the par-5 No. 17.

Ai Miyazoto, Jeong Jang and Inbee Park are the club house leaders after shooting 4-under 68s.
