Shinto shrine plans rejuvenation ritual

Chinowa Kuguri, Japan's oldest religious tradition, will be celebrated from 4 to 9 p.m. July 12 at the Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, the Shinto shrine at 1239 Olomea St.

The Chinowa Kuguri, a rejuvenatation ritual that involves stepping through a large ring made of reeds, is the only one to be conducted outside of Japan. The Chinowa ring will be specially crafted with ti leaves.
