Kelsey Kawano named as district court judge

Kelsey Kawano has been appointed a district court judge in the 2nd Circuit on Maui.

His appointment is subject to confirmation by the state Senate.

Kawano will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Douglas Ige.

Since 1994, Kawano has been operating a solo law practice handling involving family, business, employment and real estate law. He also has been serving as a part-time district court judge since 2006.

Kawano received his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1984.

Chief Justice Ronald T.Y. Moon appoints district court judges from a list of not less than six nominees submitted by the Judicial Selection Commission.
