Man in critical condition after Aiea car fire

Advertiser Staff

A man believed to be in his mid-40s was reported to be in critical condition this morning after he was found inside a burning car near the intersection of Koauka Street and Koauka Loop.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said firefighters were called to the area about 3:25 a.m. to extinguish a car fire and found the man in the parked car after the blaze was extinguished.

Cheplic said the man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and was later transferred to a burn specialty unit at another hospital.

The man received second-degree burns to more than 20 percent of his body, Cheplic said.

Police are investigating.
