West Maui waste center to close for 6 weeks

Advertiser Staff

The West Maui Convenience Center will be closed for approximately six weeks starting Monday for site improvements, according to the county Solid Waste Division.

In the meantime, residents may take recyclables, greenwaste, household trash and used motor oil to the Central Maui Landfill and Recycling Center, located on Pulehu Road, above Hansen Road. The Central Maui Landfill is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends.

A $150,000 contract was awarded to Site Engineering to repave the West Maui center and install concrete pads to house roll-off containers. The concrete pads will help preserve the new asphalt by reducing wear-and-tear on the pavement each time the containers are picked up and dropped off, the county said.

For updates on the reopening of the Olowalu Convenience Center or for general recycling information, visit www.mauicounty.gov/recycle, or call the Recycle Maui County hotline at 270-7880 or the Solid Waste Division at 270-7885.
