HOLUALOA
Man who drove truck into woman indicted

Advertiser Staff

A 29-year-old Kailua, Kona man has been indicted for manslaughter for allegedly running his truck off the road last year and striking and killing a woman as she mowed the lawn in front of her Holualoa home.

A Kona grand jury also indicted Matthew Nalu Hall on charges of second-degree negligent homicide in the death of 52-year-old Shelley Williams on March 5, 2007.

Police said Hall was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup truck north on Palekane Road when he ran off the right side of the road near Old Poi Factory Road in South Kona. The truck went airborne before it struck Williams, and police believe speed was a factor in the collision.

If convicted, Hall faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison on the manslaughter charge.
