Waikoloa Ukulele fest set for March 1

Award-winning Island musicians, each specializing in 'ukulele, will perform at the 8th annual Great Waikoloa 'Ukulele Festival from 2 to 7 p.m. March 1 at Queens' Market Place and Kings' Shops at Waikoloa, on the Big Island.

The acts are:

• Ohta-san, with guitarist Nando Suan. Ohta is a 2006 Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement winner.

• Holunape, the 2006 Na Hoku Group of the Year winner.

• Raiatea Helm, a multi-Na Hoku winner and a two-time Grammy Award nominee.

• Roy Sakuma, Hawai'i's foremost 'ukulele teacher.

A related 'ukulele workshop, conducted by Roy and Kathy Sakuma, will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 1 at the Naupaka Ballroom of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. All ages and levels of proficiency may participate.
