    KEY HOUSE VOTES

    1. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Extension

The House voted 229-191 Wednesday to reject a 21-day extension of the current FISA law. Thirty-four Democrats voted against the extension. No Republicans voted for it. The temporary surveillance law expired at midnight yesterday.

    KEY SENATE VOTES

    1. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Extension

The Senate voted 68-29 on Tuesday to reauthorize FISA, which expired yesterday. The bill includes a provision that would grant immunity from lawsuits to telecommunications companies involved in warrantless wiretapping. Such immunity was not part of last year's House-passed version of the FISA reauthorization. The measure now goes back to the House.

    Daniel Akaka (D) NAY

    Daniel K. Inouye (D) YEA

    2. Intelligence Appropriations Authorization

The Senate voted 51-45 on Wednesday to authorize CIA and other intelligence activities during 2008. The bill would ban the intelligence community from using waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques. The House approved the measure in December. President Bush has threatened a veto over the provision restricting interrogation methods.
