Utah woman, 51, killed in Big Island motorcycle crash

Advertiser Staff

A 51-year-old Utah woman died from apparent injuries suffered today in a motorcycle crash on Hawai'i Belt Road in North Hilo.

Big Island police identified the woman as Vicki Lynn Crowley of Draper, Utah.

Crowley was injured shortly before 11 a.m. at the top of the Hamakua end of Ka'awali'i Gulch and died at Hilo Medical Center at 12:10 p.m., according to police.

Traffic Enforcement Unit investigator Sgt. Christopher Gali said the woman was operating a 1991 Harley Davidson north on Hawai'i Belt Road when she struck a sandbag on the roadway, causing her to loose control of the motorcycle, which then struck a wall.

Crowley was not wearing a helmet. Speed or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors, police said.

The death was the Big Island's seventh traffic fatality of the year as compared to seven on the same date last year.
