Associated Press

RIJEKA, Croatia — Stanislav Donets of Russia set a world record in the men's 100-meter backstroke at the European short-course championships.

Donets won in 49.32 seconds on Sunday in Rijeka, Croatia, beating the mark of 49.63 set by Peter Marshall of the United States last month in Berlin.

It was Donets' third gold at the championships after also winning the 200 and 50 backstroke.
