KANE'OHE
Hawaiian civic clubs are hosting cultural retreat

Windward Hawaiian civic clubs will host a Hawaiian cultural retreat for practitioners Aug. 15 and 16 at Ho'omaluhia Garden in Kane'ohe.

"Nana i ke kumu — look to the source," is sponsored by the Ko'olaupoko, Kailua and Waimanalo Hawaiian civic clubs. Their goals are to identify all of the Native Hawaiian cultural experts throughout the Ko'olaupoko area and establish a registry of practitioners.

Donna Camvel, president of Ahupua'a Restoration Council of He'eia, will facilitate the retreat.

The cost is $40, or $20 per day. Scholarships are available. Seating is limited.

Register by Tuesday(Aug. 12). For forms, call 235-8111 or Camvel at 358-1354 or e-mail iolekaa@hawaii.rr.com.
