Needing a day of rest to rejuvenate his body and clear his mind, Parker McLachlin said he will play in this week's PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club outside Detroit.

"Sunday took a lot out of me," said the Punahou School and UCLA graduate. "Having a night to sleep on it and getting some energy back, I decided I'm going to play. This being a major, I've got to go."

Winning the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory qualified McLachlin for the final major of the year. But he said he wasn't sure if he would be up to playing seven weeks in a row.

"When I finished, it didn't feel so good," he said.

Besides a two-year exemption and a trip home for the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Kapalua, Maui, the breakthrough victory was worth $540,000, moving McLachlin to 53rd on the 2008 money list with $1,280,940.
