Roadwork this week around Oahu

The State Department of Transportation has announced several road projects around Oahu this week, weather permitting.

H-1 FREEWAY

WAIPAHU TO WAIKELE (Night Work)

Lane closures on the H-1 Freeway and Paiwa Street from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, for pavement resurfacing and landscaping work at the following locations and dates:

Monday Night

  • Rightmost southbound lane on Paiwa Street and the westbound H-1 Freeway on-ramp from Paiwa Street will be closed. Westbound motorists are advised to use the next available H-1 on-ramp at Kunia Road and surface streets such as Farrington Highway or Waipahu Street as alternate routes.

    Tuesday night

  • Single lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Kamehameha Highway overpass to the Military Road overpass.

  • Single lane closures on Paiwa Street in both directions between Lumiaina Street and Hiapo Street.

    KAPOLEI TO KUNIA

    Single lane closure in the eastbound direction between the Makakilo and Kunia Interchanges today from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for concrete coring work.

    H-1 AIRPORT VIADUCT EASTBOUND THREE-LANE CLOSURE (Night Work)

    Three rightmost lanes will be closed in the eastbound direction from the Airport off-ramp (Exit 16) to the Middle Street Tunnel through Thursday morning from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for concrete pavement repair work.

    All on-and-off-ramps will remain open during this time. Single lane closures may also be implemented on Nimitz Highway below the viaduct during these hours as a safety precaution.

    H-1 EASTBOUND PALI HIGHWAY TO 6TH AVENUE (Night Work)

    Median shoulder and possible left lane closures in the eastbound direction from the Pali Highway overpass to the 6th Avenue overpass from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., for drainage inspections and maintenance.

    H-2 FREEWAY

    HONOLULU-BOUND MEHEULA PARKWAY ON-RAMP CLOSURE

    H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound on-ramp from Mililani Town on Meheula Parkway will be closed on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for pavement repairs and lane striping.

    Honolulu-bound motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway or to proceed along Meheula Parkway, U-turn at the Ainamakua Drive intersection and use the H-2 Freeway Honolulu-bound loop on-ramp from the Makai-bound lanes.

    During these hours, the Meheula Parkway sidewalk on the Mauka-bound side will also be closed from Kuahelani Avenue to the bus stop at 1618 Meheula Parkway. Mauka-bound pedestrians are advised to cross Meheula Parkway at the Kuahelani Avenue intersection and use the opposite sidewalk.

    H-201 MOANALUA FREEWAY

    KALIHI TO HALAWA

    Various two-lane closures in both directions from Kalihi to Halawa through Friday morning from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly, for overhead signage repairs.

    H-3 FREEWAY

    MOKAPU SADDLE ROAD OFF-RAMP CLOSURE, KAILUA-BOUND RIGHT LANE

    Right lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction near the Mokapu Saddle Road off-ramp through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for roadside drilling work.

    During these hours, the Mokapu Saddle Road off-ramp will also be closed. Motorists are advised to use the following H-3 exit to Kaneohe Bay Drive or Kailua Road as alternate routes.

    FARRINGTON HIGHWAY

    WAIALUA, NANAKULI TO MAKAHA

    Single lane closures in both directions through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

  • From Nanakuli to Makaha between Haleakala Avenue and Lawaia Street for concrete bus pad construction and various contractor permit projects including electrical pole replacements and installations of watermains, communications lines and manholes.

  • Near the Hawaiian Electric Co. Kahe Power Plant for guardrail repairs.

  • In Waialua, from Kaena Point to Kaukonahua Road, for lane striping and marker installations.

    KAHEKILI HIGHWAY

    KANEOHE

    Left lane closures between Kulukeoe Street and Haiku Road in both directions through Fridayfrom 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for the removal of existing drainage systems and water line adjustments.

    KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY

    NEAR CASTLE JUNCTION

    Right-lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction between Castle Junction and Kapaa Quarry Road through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for erosion control work.

    Work and lane closures are scheduled at this site on weekdays through May 2008.

    Project contractor Prometheus Construction will be anchoring mesh safety netting to the adjacent hillside to stabilize the slope.

    KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY

    PEARL HARBOR

    Single lane closures in the eastbound direction from Makalapa Road to Valkenburgh Street through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for lane striping and lane marker installations.

    MILILANI TO WHEELER AAF

    Southbound traffic will be contraflowed using the northbound lanes between Lehua Road and Waikalani Drive through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., daily.

    24-hour lane closures will also be in effect, seven-days-a-week at the following locations:

  • Left lane closures in the southbound direction between Waikalani Drive and Waihau Street.

  • Left and right lane closures in the northbound direction between Waihau Street and Santos Dumont Avenue.

    Portable concrete barriers will be closing these lane segments for shoulder widening and curb construction.

    LIKELIKE HIGHWAY

    UPPER KALIHI AREA

    Right lane closure in the Honolulu-bound direction between Valley View Drive and School Street through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for roadside tree-trimming.

    PALI HIGHWAY

    1) NEAR PALI TUNNELS

    Right lane closure in the Kailua-bound direction from Waokanaka Street to the Pali Tunnels through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., daily, for roadside tree-trimming.

    ALA MOANA BOULEVARD

    DOWNTOWN TO ALA MOANA (Night Work)

    Multiple lane closures in the eastbound direction from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for pavement resurfacing work at the following locations and dates:

  • All eastbound lanes will be closed between Kamakee Street and Piikoi Street through Friday morning. Eastbound traffic will be contraflowed past the work area in one westbound lane.

    To avoid delays, motorists are advised to use Queen Street or South King Street as alternate routes.

    ALA MOANA TO WAIKIKI

    Single lane closure in the westbound direction between Kalakaua Avenue and Kalia Road through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, for driveway, sidewalk, curb and gutter construction.

    This improvements project will include the reconstruction and resurfacing of pavement areas, the addition of a fourth eastbound lane from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road, the lengthening of left-turn stacking lanes onto Hobron Lane and Kalia Road, center median landscaping enhancements designed in consultation with the Outdoor Circle, replacement of highway lighting with decorative lighting similar to Kalakaua Avenue, and the reconstruction of portions of pedestrian sidewalks and driveways.

    These road improvements will be paid for by the Hilton Hotels Corporation as part of a larger development surrounding the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa. Hilton has also established a construction information hotline at 948-7600 and an informational website at www.villagerejuvenation.com. Project completion is anticipated in December 2008.

    FORT WEAVER ROAD

    EWA

    Single lane closures in both directions through Friday at the following locations and times:

  • Southbound Direction (from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

  • Left lane closure between Laulaunui Street and Old Fort Weaver Road for trenching work for the installation of electrical conduits.

  • Single lane closure from Old Fort Weaver Road to Renton Road for temporary lane striping.

  • Northbound Direction (from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)

  • Intermittent single lane closure from Aawa Drive to the Honouliuli Stream Bridge for lane striping and concrete barrier installations.

    PUULOA ROAD

    MAPUNAPUNA

    Various lane closures on Puuloa Road between Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily, at the following locations:

  • Shoulder lanes in both directions closed. Roadside parking will not be permitted.

  • Modified traffic pattern is in effect on Mokumoa Street between Puuloa Road and Mapunapuna Street for drainage work. No large vehicles are allowed through this area. One lane of travel in each direction is available for cars.

    PAIWA STREET

    NEAR H-1 FREEWAY (Night Work)

    Lane closures on the H-1 Freeway and Paiwa Street from 9:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., nightly, for pavement resurfacing and landscaping work at the following locations and dates:

  • Tonight: Rightmost southbound lane on Paiwa Street and the westbound H-1 Freeway on-ramp from Paiwa Street will be closed. Westbound motorists are advised to use the next available H-1 on-ramp at Kunia Road and surface streets such as Farrington Highway or Waipahu Street as alternate routes.

    Tuesday Night

  • Single lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in both directions between the Kamehameha Highway overpass to the Military Road overpass.

  • Single lane closures on Paiwa Street in both directions between Lumiaina Street and Hiapo Street.
