ERIK HAZELHOFF, 90, considered the Netherlands' greatest World War II hero, died Sept. 26, 2007 on the Big Island. Born in Java. A part of the Dutch resistance to the Nazis; after escaping occupied Holland, he served with the British M16 secret service, regularly returning to his homeland under cover to direct espionage efforts; author of "Soldier of Orange" and other works. Survived by wife, Karin; son, Erik Roelfzema Jr.; daughter, Karna Hazelhoff-Castellon; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter. Gathering Oct. 6 in Waimea. Ashes to be interred with military honors in Holland.
