The 21st annual Oceanic Time Warner Cable Tennis Weekend will be Oct. 6 and 7 at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park. Tracy Austin, former New York City mayor David Dinkins and Dick Gould are the featured speakers and clinicians.

The free event includes clinics, cardio tennis, Island Pro Tour and a Block Party. A Charity Pro-Auction Sunday afternoon will benefit the Institute of Human Services. Top Hawai'i players, including Henry Somerville, Mika Maatta, Jan Tribler and Chris Ng, will team with the highest bidder in the mixed doubles fundraiser.

The annual USTA Hawai'i Pacific Section Awards Banquet will be the same weekend, with entertainment by Brittni Paiva. It is Saturday, Oct. 6, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Ala Moana Hotel. Hattie Somerville and Jim Schwitters will be officially inducted into the Hawai'i Tennis Hall of Fame. Deadline to register for the banquet is Tuesday. Cost is $40.

Austin, a two-time U.S. Open champion who now serves as a TV analyst, won 29 singles titles. She is a a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Gould coached Stanford for 38 years, collecting 17 team championship. Dinkins, the longest-serving member of the current USTA Board of Directors, now works as a professor at Columbia University.

FISHING FESTIVAL SET FOR OCT. 7 AT PIER 38

A fishing festival, to benefit the Pacific Island Fisheries Group, will be Oct. 7 at the New Honolulu Fishing Village at Pier 38.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature nearly 80 booths.

There is no admission charge and the first 250 keiki to attend will receive a free bamboo fishing pole.

There will be activities for keiki, tours of the fishing boats and the fish auction facility as well as demonstrations of various products. Local fishing and boating groups will also be present.

Free parking will be available at Honolulu Community College and a free shuttle will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be limited, free valet parking at Pier 38.

HONOLULU MARATHON REGISTRATION ON RISE

Honolulu Marathon entries are running more than 1,200 ahead of last year at the same time.

There are 8,688 entrants thus far, compared with 7,436 on Sept. 17 of last year. Local entries are at 6,378, less than 400 entries below last year's final local total. There are 1,415 Japanese entries.

This year's race is Dec. 9 at 5 a.m.
